This year’s first release of Ubuntu operating system i.e Ubuntu 14.04 is released now. For Linux lovers its great news because Ubuntu is considered leader in linux in terms of popularity. You can have your hands on this version by downloading it from its official website. www.ubuntu.com. And yes its’ free as it always have been.
In terms of look and feel there in not much change. It’s almost feels same as its previous release Ubuntu 13.10. But the core applications are updated to their latest version that includes Firefox 29, Libre office4.2, Linux kernel 3.13 and of course new wallpaper. So basically Ubuntu didn’t go crazy with this release. And this makes perfect sense because current release mostly focuses on stability rather than inclusion of new features. The reason behind this is that this is a LTS release.
And Ubuntu will be supporting if for next 3 years. So if you are not an adventurous person and value stability and security then you should definitely install this in your laptop or desktop or even in server. Other enthusiast can give try this just to have a feel of new operating system.
And I can bet all of you will appreciate how streamlined and polished this version feels. Unity interface is surely evolved and looks much sleeker now. Icons, windows, lock screen wallpaper matches with each other perfectly. You can choose to have window menu instead of global menu.
Overall Ubuntu 14.04 feels good but looks old. Without a doubt it’s a good stable version. And if you are specifically looking for highly noticeable new features then you should wait for the 14.10 release.
