TELEGRAM

Special: Secure & Big files sharing cabapility
Ugly: Same UI as Whatsapp

If you are a WhatsApp addict then you must have heard the buzz about new TELEGRAM app. In terms of look and feel its WhatsApp clone but in term of functionality it’s superior to WhatsApp. Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram is not limited to media files only. It can be used for sharing productivity files like MS word, excel or presentation file large up to 1 GB.

Also it doesn’t put any burden on your pocket by charging annual subscription fee. It promises to remain always free so there is threat of getting charged in future when it becomes massively popular. Also it boast of providing high security by encrypting the message. To make you more confident this app provides a private chat option which has unique feature of self-destruction of message after particular interval from devices as well from servers. It also restricts the forwarding of message. So it respects your privacy.  (Same things can’t be said about WhatsApp especially when it’s acquired by Facebook which is being accused of breaching public trust by involving people in their psychological experiment without their consent.)

Talking about the user interface, it highly resembles to the WhatsApp so if you are migrating from WhatsApp then you won’t have to learn anything. You can straight away use this app without any hassle. Even for the new user also it’s very easy to use because of the same trait that it has the UI of WhatsApp (Remember WhatsApp UI is called world’s simples UI).

Let’s talk about the ugly part. By adopting the WhatsApp UI this wonderful app lost its identity. It’s more known as WhatsApp clone rather than some better and improved and more intuitive new social networking app. Also it seems little slow in terms of notification. WhatsApp always is the first app pushing notification to my cellphone as soon as I start my 3G internet. But this is not the biggest problem of this app. The biggest problem is that people are not using this app as often as WhatsApp even if they have installed it when they heard the buzz about it. Because it practically doesn’t offer much compared to WhatsApp. So people don’t feel the need to launch this app and send the message and then end up managing two different app for the same use.

So copying the UI of WhatsApp works for TELEGRAM app like a two sided sword. It’s the reason for this app’s popularity and same time non popularity. I personally would have been more delighted if it had come with new refreshed design with same security features. Because that’s how soft wares get better by offering something new which was nonexistent earlier rather than copying the existing thing.

Still Telegram is a great software, especially when you care more about privacy and your friends reciprocate the same way otherwise you will end up being lonely. Also it’s a great software if you need to more often share big big productivity files.

But if you just the use social networking apps to forward jokes, good morning wishes and cute kitten videos and not much concerned about privacy then keep using WhatsApp. This app has nothing new to offer you.
